One of my early attempts to sell a couple of shots to the wire services actually netted results and a few dollars with these two “weather photos” taken during a string of hot summer days in 1976. United Press International picked them up and to my amazement at the time I got clips back from as far away as the Honolulu Advertiser.
These photos were taken at a popular swimming hole near Kinser Bridge on the James River in Greene County, Missouri. As nostalgic as the images are for some people, I doubt that I could sell similar images today to a wire service. Tighter budgets and stricter news content guidelines have pretty much made these “over the transom” sales a thing of the past.
